Lymphedema is a kind of a disorder in which in a persons body the lymphatic fluids starts getting collected in different parts of the body like nape, ankle, joints, knees, arms. And, most of the time it happens because the lymphatic system becomes irregular and that happens due to various kinds of diseases likes that of cancer. Then, what happens is that, the lymphatic fluids gets collected in different parts of the body. Therefore, in order to stop the lymphatic fluids from being accumulated in the different parts of the body or the specific body parts, the doctors suggest the patients to use a compression garments to suppress the accumulation of the fluids in the parts of the body and to recover quickly.

Stops the Harmful Fluid Accumulation –

Compression garments are not made especially for lymphedema but also even the athletes use the compression garments for various purposes. Several benefits are there of compression garments for lymphedema. One of the biggest benefits of the compression garments for lymphedema is that it stops the harmful effects of the lymphatic fluids i.e. the development of the lymphatic fluids in one’s body. Besides, that by wearing a compression garment there will be proper circulation of the fluids in the patient’s body. The circulation of the fluid will be even. Several reasons are there as to why people suffer from lymphedema. One of the major reasons for people suffering from lymphedema is the cancer of head and neck.

Lymphedema Due to Cancer –

Many people are there who had had the cancer of the lymphatic system, are the people who mostly suffer from lymphedema or various kinds of lymphedema. One of the important things that you will notice is that a person who is suffering from lymphedema will show many signs and symptoms and one such main symptom that a person suffering from the lymphedema will show is the inflammation in the affected body parts. Another pivotal symptom that the patient is likely to show is that of discomfort. Therefore, the lymphatic disorder patients are advised to use the compression garment for lymphedema, as the compression garments can mainly help in stopping the swelling in the body and will give relief from pain including swelling and redness in the area where there is swelling.

Changing Compression Garments –

Several benefits are there of the compression garments, but at the same time it is important for the patients to know that they should change their compression garments when the compression garments become loose. They should also use the compression garments carefully and hygienically. The fluid back up in the area where there is a swelling can worsen, if people use the compression garments that are too loose or too tight and due to much pressure or less pressure this can happen. So, it is important that you change the compression garments every 2 months or 3 months and at the max 4 months but not more than that.

Take Precaution –

Suppose you are wearing, a compression garments for 6 months then what happens is that by that time the elastic will get too loose. In addition, if there is much or little pressure, then your lymphedema can get worse. Therefore, taking precaution is a must. Compression garments are mostly tight, because it is made of elastic material; other materials in which the compression garments are available are cotton and latex. You should always choose compression garments with that of sleeves, so that there are no chances of fluid back up. It is important that you have at least one experienced person so that they can help you wear the compression sleeves nicely.
